Police Arrest Homeless Ex-Con in Brutal ‘Knuckle Knife’ Stabbing on Bronx Subway

A 21-year-old man was brutally attacked in an unprovoked stabbing incident aboard a Bronx subway train. The incident took place on a southbound No. 5 train approaching the 219th St. subway station in Williamsbridge. The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Lateef Green, faces charges of attempted murder and assault following the violent attack.

At approximately 7 a.m., Green was seen pacing between cars on the subway train when he suddenly approached the victim and attacked him with a knuckle knife. The weapon, designed with holes in the handle for finger placement, provided a secure grip during the assault. After being stabbed multiple times in the chest and body, the victim managed to exit the train at the 219th St. station to seek help from nearby police officers. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Jacobi Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Authorities released images of Green, leading to his arrest approximately 12 hours after the attack. Details regarding the location of his apprehension were not immediately provided. Green’s arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court is pending.

Green’s criminal history includes around 30 prior arrests, with multiple violations of parole since being released from prison in 2021. He previously served a three-and-a-half-year sentence at Mid-State Correctional Facility for a hate crime assault and sexual abuse conviction in Manhattan dating back to 2017. Many of Green’s previous arrests stemmed from criminal trespass, often due to his being found sleeping in building doorways and stairwells. Despite his recent stay at a Bronx shelter, Green was homeless at the time of the arrest.

In a separate incident at the 219th St. subway station, police arrested 58-year-old Dennis Willis. He was charged with forcible touching after allegedly groping a woman as they crossed paths on the station stairs. Law enforcement officers quickly responded to both incidents, maintaining safety and order in the area.
