Authorities responded to the location at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday following reports of a possible drowning. Park officers successfully retrieved the victim from the water, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to an initial investigation, the victim was swimming when he was potentially caught in a rip current, causing him to go underwater. Police have stated that there are no indications of foul play in this unfortunate event.
