Miami Gardens tragedy: Woman claims, ‘This man made me shoot my son’ after husband killed

New revelations have emerged about a tragic incident in Miami Gardens involving a shooting that resulted in one fatality and a teenager wounded. The police report, obtained recently, sheds light on the events that transpired inside a residence during a domestic altercation.

Law enforcement officials from Miami Gardens have disclosed that Shaneeka Daschell Harris, 36, was apprehended following an alleged shooting of her husband, Aaron Swatts, and her 15-year-old son. The violent encounter unfolded inside their townhome, escalating from a domestic dispute.

Police were called to the scene near the 19000 block of Northwest 46th Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Friday following a 911 report of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers observed movement in an upstairs window and instructed the occupants to exit the premises.

One of Harris’ sons came out of the house, informing officers that his brother had sustained a gunshot wound to the foot. Harris later emerged with her 15-year-old son, who had been shot in the right thigh. She indicated that her husband remained inside the residence.

During a protective sweep of the home, officers discovered Swatts lying unresponsive at the entrance of an upstairs bedroom, having been shot in the back. A black handgun was found on a piece of furniture in another room, along with ammunition on the stairs.

Swatts was airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m. Investigators interviewed Harris and her son at a Miami Gardens police station, where all three provided statements. Harris reportedly waived her Miranda rights and confessed, though the details of her confession were redacted from the public report.

During the emergency call, one of the boys identified Harris as the shooter of both his brother and Swatts. In the background, a woman’s voice, believed to be Harris, could be heard saying that Swatts had compelled her to shoot their son. The dispatcher was informed that Harris still possessed the firearm following the incident.

The investigation revealed that Harris and Swatts, married in 2022, had been in a tumultuous relationship for over ten years. Although Swatts did not reside permanently at the address, he frequently spent time there with Harris and her sons from a previous marriage.

Officers recovered a 9 mm Walther CCP handgun with an eight-round capacity at the scene, in addition to three spent shell casings and five live rounds. Both siblings reportedly confirmed hearing a warning shot followed by further gunfire.

Jail records indicate that Harris was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday evening and is facing a second-degree murder charge with a deadly weapon. She appeared in court on Saturday, where she was denied bond and is scheduled for another court appearance on Monday.

The motive behind the shooting remains undisclosed in the arrest report.
