A man, aged 40, was taken into custody over the weekend following a deadly incident where he allegedly shot his friend after an argument escalated in a Miami restaurant’s parking lot. The tragic event unfolded around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Red Rooster, situated at 920 NW Second Ave. in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood.
Police reported that an officer, responding to the scene, was approached by two witnesses who identified the shooter as Carlton Ziv Davis, known by his alias “Red.” According to the arrest report, one witness, residing nearby, recounted that he was conversing with some women outside his building when he noticed the victim, referred to by witnesses as “White Boy,” standing outside.
The witness inquired about the victim’s presence, to which the victim replied he was awaiting Davis. The report indicated that the suspect and the victim were longtime friends who had been consuming alcohol together. As the situation escalated, the two began arguing, and the victim attempted to punch Davis but failed. The witness stated that as the victim approached Davis once more, Davis drew a firearm and shot him.
Authorities noted that Davis appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The victim, who was unarmed, sustained an abdominal gunshot wound and was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center by Miami Fire Rescue in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries later that morning at 11:26 a.m.
Davis now faces a charge of second-degree murder and remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond, as of Monday. The exact cause of the argument between the two men prior to the shooting remains unclear.
