A tragic traffic incident occurred on Saturday night, leading to the arrest of a Long Island teenager on serious charges. The crash, which involved a drunken driver, resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and left another passenger severely injured.
The teenager, Brian Romero Guy August, aged 19, was involved in the incident that took place in Massapequa, Nassau County. Following the crash, August was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He appeared in county court on Sunday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. August remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday.
The sequence of events began as August drove a Bentley SUV eastbound on Sunrise Highway. Initially intending to turn left at Unqua Road, August reportedly changed his decision and attempted a sudden maneuver to cross the highway and turn right instead. This action led to a collision with a three-wheeled Slingshot motorcycle traveling in the same direction.
Tragically, the collision claimed the life of the 48-year-old male motorcycle driver and inflicted serious injuries on a 47-year-old female passenger. Authorities have not disclosed their identities. The impact also propelled the motorcycle into a Kia SUV that was stationary at a traffic light on Unqua Road. Thankfully, the six occupants of the Kia, comprised of two adults and four children, were unharmed.
Both August and a 30-year-old male passenger in the Bentley sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized. The legal consequences for August are severe, as he faces charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and driving while intoxicated.
