An investigation is currently underway following a fatal police shooting that took place on Monday evening. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. near the intersection of South Federal Highway and Southeast Tenth Street in Deerfield Beach.
Authorities reported that deputies were dispatched in response to reports of a “suspicious person” reportedly armed with multiple large knives. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a woman possessing several knives. At some point during the confrontation, shots were fired, resulting in the woman’s death. A crew from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced her deceased.
Officials have not yet identified the woman or disclosed details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting. As with all police shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has also stated that its Internal Affairs Unit will carry out a separate investigation into the incident.
