The application process for filling the vacant Third Ward seat in Austin is set to commence, following the resignation of Joyce Poshusta. Aspiring candidates must meet specific criteria, including being at least 21 years old, residing within Austin, and being registered voters in the Third Ward.
This position involves participation in bi-monthly meetings held on the first and third Mondays, alongside responsibilities on various committees and boards. Interested individuals are required to submit an affidavit of candidacy, which carries a filing fee. Forms are available at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, located at 500 Fourth Avenue NE, or can be downloaded from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
Applications must include a resume and a letter of interest detailing relevant experience and community vision. These documents are to be submitted by May 13, no later than 5 p.m. The City Council will review the applications from May 14 to May 25, followed by candidate interviews during a special meeting on May 26. The appointment of the new representative is scheduled for the June 2 City Council meeting.
This process follows Poshusta’s recent announcement of her resignation due to a new job opportunity requiring relocation outside of Ward Three. For further inquiries, contact City Administrator Craig Clark at 1-507-437-9941.
