A man has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal crash in September 2024 that resulted in one death and left two others with severe injuries in Hollywood, Florida. The incident has drawn significant attention due to its tragic consequences, including one survivor who has been paralyzed from the abdomen down.
The suspect, identified as Paul Anthony Negrin, 32, from Miramar, is facing multiple felony charges. Investigations revealed that Negrin was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, and marijuana at the time of the crash. He reportedly ran a red light at more than double the speed limit, prompting the charges against him.
The crash occurred shortly before 4:20 a.m. on September 1 at the intersection of Sheridan Street and State Road 7. According to the Hollywood Police Department, Negrin was driving a 2018 Lexus GX460 at a speed of 83 mph on Sheridan Street just seconds before the collision. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station indicated that Negrin ignored a red light that had been active for about seven seconds, narrowly avoiding multiple vehicles before colliding with a southbound Toyota Camry and causing his SUV to flip over.
Witnesses at the scene described the chaos, with one individual pulling Negrin from his vehicle. Another eyewitness recounted the intensity of the impact, describing Negrin’s vehicle as “barreling through” and completely striking the Camry. According to police reports, a female witness estimated Negrin’s speed to be around 100 mph.
Emergency responders quickly transported the three individuals in the Camry to a local trauma center. Unfortunately, one victim did not survive the ordeal. The names of the victims have been withheld from public arrest records available on the Broward Clerk of Courts website.
In the aftermath of the crash, Negrin appeared “confused” and mistakenly believed he was at a different location, over six miles away. A blood test conducted at a nearby hospital revealed Negrin’s blood alcohol content to be an “extremely high” .233%, almost three times the legal limit. Authorities suggest that his blood alcohol level may have been even higher at the time of the crash since the test was administered approximately an hour later.
Cellphone data revealed that Negrin had been in downtown Hollywood, a hub of nightlife activity, until about 4 a.m. that morning. He is currently held at the Broward Main Jail and faces charges including vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter. If found guilty, Negrin could face a lengthy prison sentence.
