3.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Ohio

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 was detected in southeastern Ohio on Tuesday morning. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the seismic activity occurred around 4:12 a.m. in Guernsey County, near Pleasant City.

The USGS classifies a 3.1 magnitude earthquake as weak. The epicenter was located close to Cumberland, approximately eight miles southwest of Pleasant City. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at about 5 kilometers, equivalent to 3.1 miles beneath the earth’s surface.

Seismic events ranging from 2.5 to 5.4 in magnitude are generally noticeable to humans but typically result in only minor damage, as noted by Michigan Technological University.
