A recent poll indicates a notable majority of President Donald Trump’s supporters are against U.S. military intervention in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Conducted by Economist/YouGov over the past weekend, the survey revealed that 53% of voters who supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election oppose the idea of the U.S. joining Israel in its military strikes against Iran.

These findings align with a broader public call for a peaceful resolution to prevent Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons. This sentiment is further supported by a Chicago Council on Global Affairs-Ipsos survey from April, which found that eight in ten Americans prefer diplomatic measures or tighter sanctions to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Despite concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities, the appetite for military engagement remains low.

The survey, reported by the foreign policy think tank Responsible Statecraft, comes amidst increasing Republican criticism of President Trump’s threats to deploy U.S. forces without Congressional approval. Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie voiced his opposition on social media, emphasizing that Congress should decide such matters as per constitutional guidelines. Similarly, Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett expressed to CNN his desire for minimal U.S. involvement, citing the dangers of another protracted conflict in the Middle East.

The poll results indicate only 19% of Trump supporters favor U.S. military involvement, whereas 63% advocate for negotiation with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Across the general voter base, 60% oppose military actions, preferring diplomacy as the primary course of action. Past polls consistently highlight a preference for non-military solutions, with many Americans endorsing cyberattacks or other non-kinetic measures rather than direct military action.

These developments occur as Iran and Israel’s missile exchanges continue to escalate tension in the region. The ongoing discourse reflects a significant portion of the American public’s reluctance to engage in another military conflict, emphasizing the necessity for diplomatic efforts to mitigate nuclear threats from Iran.
