Fort Myers, FL – U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Vincent Jay Yau, a 43-year-old resident of Bokeelia, to six years and six months in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The court also mandated the forfeiture of Yau's laptop and cellphone, which he used to commit the offense. Yau had previously entered a guilty plea on February 19, 2025.
According to court documents, a federal search warrant was executed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at Yau’s residence, uncovering multiple electronic devices. On these devices, agents discovered thousands of files containing CSAM, including disturbing content involving toddlers. The investigation and subsequent prosecution were part of the nationwide Project Safe Childhood initiative, launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006. This program focuses on combating the increasing problem of child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders while also working to identify and rescue victims.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan, reflecting ongoing efforts by U.S. Attorney's Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) to address these heinous crimes.
