A prominent IT defense contractor has expanded its operations with a new location in Tampa, aiming to bolster support for key military programs at MacDill Airforce Base.

Virginia-based Akima, a leading contractor specializing in IT support for military operations, has commenced operations at its new base in Tampa’s Rocky Point neighborhood. The expansion is geared towards enhancing support for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) at MacDill Airforce Base, both considered vital to national security.

The company’s president and CEO, Bill Monet, emphasized Akima’s long-term commitment to the Tampa Bay community. “Our focus is to deliver outstanding work for our customers, to create a rewarding environment for our team, and to provide meaningful support to our shareholders,” Monet stated. “We’re excited about putting down roots here and becoming a permanent member of the local business community.”

In addition to IT solutions, Akima’s workforce of 10,000 employees worldwide is involved in sectors such as logistics, aerospace technology, and mission support, among others. The company operates as a subsidiary of NANA, an Alaska Native Corporation owned by over 15,000 Iñupiat shareholders. Akima’s mission centers on delivering positive customer service to create lasting value for NANA, in alignment with Iñupiat values.

With its new Tampa location, Akima is poised to play a significant role in supporting military operations at MacDill Airforce Base, reinforcing its commitment to national security and the local community.
