Sarasota Memorial Invests in $160M Health Software

The Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has committed $160 million to adopt Epic’s electronic medical records system, signaling a major advancement in their healthcare management approach.

Over the next two years, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System will transition to Epic, a comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) solution designed to enhance provider efficiency and patient accessibility across its network. This healthcare system, which includes two hospitals and numerous outpatient facilities from Manatee County to North Port, aims to consolidate and streamline its medical records management with this investment.

Sarasota Memorial’s existing setup comprises several standalone and ancillary systems. By implementing Epic, the health system will unify its records, facilitating seamless information exchange among its 2,000 providers. This integration will enable better coordination of care irrespective of the facility location, ultimately culminating in improved patient outcomes.

The Epic system is renowned for its secure, patient-focused platform, leveraging cutting-edge tools like artificial intelligence and predictive modeling. These technologies are designed to provide valuable insights, enabling healthcare providers to enhance patient care quality.

The patient experience will also improve significantly with the introduction of the MyChart portal, offering patients consolidated access to their medical records and allowing secure communication with healthcare teams. Epic, headquartered in Wisconsin, boasts electronic medical records for over 325 million patients globally, underscoring its prominence in the healthcare IT sector.

David Verinder, the CEO of Sarasota Memorial, expressed optimism about the transition, noting the system’s national recognition as a top-ranked electronic health records platform. He emphasized that this investment positions Sarasota Memorial to deliver superior patient care both now and in the long term.

Handling nearly two million patient visits annually, Sarasota Memorial has budgeted $2.1 billion in operating revenue for fiscal 2025. This financial commitment to Epic underscores the health system’s focus on leveraging advanced technology to enrich patient and provider experiences.

In adopting Epic’s electronic medical records system, Sarasota Memorial is making a strategic investment in its future, prioritizing patient care improvement and operational efficiency.
