The Story So Far
Why This Matters
Who Thinks What?
Cardsmiths has launched its latest Currency Series 5 trading card set, featuring five cards redeemable for a full Bitcoin each, currently valued at over $100,000. The new series, which also includes redemption cards for Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dogecoin, became available on Wednesday through the company’s website and select retailers, building on previous sets that saw collectors redeem significant cryptocurrency prizes.
Increased Demand and Offerings
The latest release marks Cardsmiths’ most extensive offering of crypto redemption cards to date. Steven Loney, CEO of Cardsmiths, noted that demand for Currency Series 5 has surpassed all prior releases, indicating broader and deeper interest from collectors.
Packs are priced as low as $37 for a box containing two packs, with each pack holding five trading cards. According to Cardsmiths, cards redeemable for cryptocurrency are found in approximately 1 out of every 96 packs.
New Collectibles and Artistic Collaborations
Beyond the redeemable assets, Currency Series 5 introduces a non-redeemable 1/1 Bitcoin trading card, designed to be a premier collectible within the set. The company collaborated with artists such as Gunship Revolution Studios, Jon McTavish, and street artist Mr. Brainwash to give the cards a distinctive visual appeal.
Loney explained that the goal from the outset was to create unique “One of One” cards for each Currency release, with Bitcoin being a natural choice due to its recognition and value.
Past Success Stories and Future Plans
Collectors have previously capitalized on Cardsmiths’ redemption offerings. Last year, a user reportedly found a full Bitcoin redemption card from a $50 pack of the Holiday Currency set, yielding profits exceeding six figures. Similarly, a GameStop customer found a Bitcoin redemption card valued at approximately $115,000 from a $13 pack.
Supplies of Currency Series 5 remain available on the manufacturer’s website. Cardsmiths has partnered with BitPay, allowing customers to pay with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Circle’s USDC stablecoin. Looking ahead, the company confirms that Currency is a tentpole intellectual property, with development already underway for future sets, including Currency Series 6.
