In a recent development, President Donald Trump has publicly advised Apple to eliminate its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

This commentary from Trump on Truth Social emerges just one day after Apple shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to abolish the tech giant’s DEI policies. A staggering 96% of shareholders opposed the measure, which was put forth by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative organization. This proposal cited potential legal, reputational, and financial risks associated with maintaining these programs.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, amidst the ongoing debate, reiterated the company’s commitment to diversity during the annual shareholder meeting. Cook emphasized that Apple does not adhere to quotas or targets, asserting, “Our strength has always come from hiring the very best people and then providing a culture of collaboration, one where people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives come together to innovate and create something magical for our users time and time again.” This statement underscores Apple’s dedication to fostering an inclusive environment.

This situation highlights a broader trend in Silicon Valley, where companies are reassessing their diversity objectives amid legal and political pressures. Google, Meta, and Amazon have recently re-evaluated their diversity hiring targets, with some scaling back or altering their DEI initiatives.
