A Peek into Wicked’s Hilarious Deleted Scene

A deleted scene from the movie adaptation of Wicked has fans buzzing as it reveals an amusing interaction between Ariana Grande’s Glinda and Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba.

In this previously unseen clip, Grande’s Glinda is on a mission to doll up Erivo’s Elphaba with some quirky tips on gaining attention at Shiz University. Displaying her character’s charm, Glinda performs her iconic hair toss, exclaiming, “Ooo, I forgot to tell you, there’s another version. You can do: toss, toss, leg. Toss, toss, leg.” Elphaba gives it a try, but Glinda humorously collapses to the floor, seemingly in despair at her attempt. Not discouraged, Glinda introduces a new skill, instructing Elphaba, “I’m gonna teach you how to talk with your eyebrows. When you got something to say, but you can’t really say it and you wanna get your way. Raise ‘em.” This technique appears more successful, as Glinda gives Elphaba her approval with a pleased, “That’s good.”

For those who caught the scene during its preview on Today, the reactions were explosive, reflecting how the scene resonated with viewers. “HOW COULD THEY CUT THE EYEBROWS PART THATS SO FUNNY OMGGG,” a fan exclaimed on YouTube, while another voiced their thoughts, “The pause. The Keel over. Why did they delete it? I’m CRYING.” This enthusiasm sparked interest for an extended edition of the movie among the audience.

The captivating performances of Ariana and Cynthia did not go unnoticed, earning them both nominations for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. For Grande, being part of the Wicked family was a dream she lived since watching the original Broadway production at the age of ten, which she described as a transformative experience. Despite her passion, she faced a rigorous audition process to secure her role as Glinda, impressing director Jon M. Chu with her dedication and unique presence during auditions.

Interestingly, before Ariana and Cynthia brought Glinda and Elphaba to life, the roles almost went to other notable actresses. In the development stage of Wicked’s adaptation, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Claire Danes were among those who showed keen interest. Producer Suzanne Todd recalled Moore’s intentions to play either of the leading roles, while Goldberg’s publicist confirmed her strong desire to have the book rights.

Other illustrious names like Salma Hayek, Laurie Metcalf, Michelle Pfeiffer, Emma Thompson, and Nicole Kidman were also considered during the casting process. However, as fate would have it, the roles eventually landed with Grande and Erivo, who have added their own memorable touches to the film.

The deleted scene from Wicked delivers a delightful taste of the brilliant on-screen chemistry between Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Fans can only hope that more unseen gems will be unveiled, adding even more layers to this enchanting adaptation.
