Dana Point, with its picturesque beaches and vibrant harbor, isn’t just a paradise for humans; it’s a haven for dogs too. Recently, I embarked on a two-day journey with my trusty Chiweenie, Poppy, to explore everything this Southern California gem has to offer.
Our temporary home was the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, nestled on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. This recently renovated resort is the epitome of luxury, and it didn’t take long for Poppy to make herself comfortable on the balcony, enjoying the sea breeze. With its green spaces perfect for quick strolls and a location within walking distance of dog-friendly beaches, it made the perfect base for our adventures.
Our first morning started at What a Dish Café, where their dog-friendly patio welcomed us. Poppy eagerly tried the ‘pupcakes,’ a delightful treat that set the tone for our day. Fueled and ready, we headed to Westwind Sailing for a kayaking adventure. Poppy, proving her bravery, perched proudly at the kayak’s front as we navigated the calm waters of Dana Point Harbor, offering a unique perspective of the area.
For lunch, Harpoon Henry’s provided both a feast for the eyes and the stomach with its views of the marina and delectable seafood. Poppy was content with a fresh bowl of water while I savored the fish tacos. We continued our culinary exploration at The Doggie Barkery, where Poppy relished a custom-made treat, further cementing her status as a spoiled pup.
Dinner was at Truly Pizza, a popular spot known for its limited-quantity square pizzas. The lively atmosphere and friendly diners made Poppy feel right at home. This capped off an eventful day full of coastal adventures and delicious meals.
The next day started with morning yoga at Lantern Bay Park. This class was as relaxing for me as it was sun-soaked for Poppy. Afterwards, Craft House became our lunch spot, where I indulged in a spicy tuna crispy rice starter while enjoying the dog-friendly patio.
An afternoon walk along the Bluff Top Trail provided stunning coastal views, a perfect backdrop for Poppy’s enthusiastic exploration. As our trip drew to a close, we dined at Lantern’s Edge, where Poppy delighted in a meal fit for a canine connoisseur and I enjoyed a seafood pasta under a sky painted by the setting sun.
Dana Point stands out as an exceptional destination for pet lovers, offering an ideal blend of adventure and relaxation. Whether it’s kayaking through the harbor or indulging in gourmet dining, this town has something for everyone. So, pack a leash and head to Dana Point for your next pet-friendly getaway.
