By November 2022, she was financially ready, having amassed enough for a hefty down payment and built a solid emergency fund. Her diligence allowed her to purchase a 900-square-foot condo in Downtown Doral for about $400,000.

Her timing wasn’t without its challenges. Entering the real estate market during the COVID-19 pandemic meant contending with sky-high home prices and fierce competition. Many times, she found herself in bidding wars, properties slipping away to cash offers far above asking prices. “I cried more about real estate than anything else,” she admitted, a sentiment echoed by many in a similar plight. “It felt like I’d done everything right yet faced constant rejection.”

Despite the hurdles, persistence led to success. After a year of searching, Karla’s offer on a third property was accepted. Her new home, a condo, offered not only a place to live but a wise investment in her future. The space was perfect for her needs, complete with a den for work-from-home days and a view that captured the beauty of South Florida sunsets.

Karla’s decision to buy a condo reflected her lifestyle preferences. The security and convenience of condo living appealed to her as a single woman. Her building’s amenities, including concierge services and a gated garage, added peace of mind. Plus, the urban vibe of her new neighborhood contrasted sharply with the suburban life she had known, offering easy access to shops, cafés, and entertainment.

With renovations mostly complete, thanks to her father’s expertise in construction, Karla’s condo became a comfortable, personalized space. “I can make decisions without compromise,” she noted, appreciating the freedom solo ownership affords. Her humorous quip, “It’s just me and this mortgage,” captures both the challenges and joys of her new status as a homeowner.
