The Society of Composers & Lyricists has unveiled the contenders for the 2025 SCL Awards, spotlighting those who have achieved brilliance in music for visual media.
Renowned composers Clément Ducol and Camille, along with Atticus Ross of ‘Shōgun’, lead the nominations, each securing three nods. This year’s ceremony promises to be a spectacular event, as the prestigious hardware will find its winners on February 12 in Los Angeles, hosted by Men at Work’s Colin Hay.
In recognition of longstanding collaborative success, the Spirit of Collaboration Award will honor Gladiator II composer Harry Gregson-Williams and iconic filmmaker Ridley Scott. Gregson-Williams, known for his work on Scott’s ‘The Martian’ and ‘House of Gucci’, expressed deep appreciation for Scott’s unique approach towards integrating music with storytelling.
A special mention goes to five-time Emmy winner Jeff Beal, who will receive the SCL Jury Award for his remarkable score for the silent film classic ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’, regarded as a cornerstone of cinematic history.
Nominees for the Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film include Ducol and Camille for ‘Emilia Perez’, Hans Zimmer for ‘Dune: Part Two’, and John Powell with Stephen Schwartz for ‘Wicked: Part 1’. The Independent Film category sees entries from Chris Bacon for ‘Heretic’ and Dara Taylor for ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’, among others.
The nominations for Outstanding Original Song are equally impressive, featuring artists like Andrew Wyatt and Miley Cyrus for ‘Beautiful That Way’, and Elton John with Brandi Carlile for ‘Never Too Late’. Meanwhile, the Comedy or Musical category boasts contenders like Clement Ducol and Camille for ‘Mi Camino’ from ‘Emilia Perez’.
Television productions are not left out, with Atticus Ross and his team nominated for ‘Shōgun’. They compete in categories such as Outstanding Original Title Sequence and Outstanding Original Score.
For the realm of interactive media, composers like Gordy Haab for ‘Indiana Jones And The Great Circle’ and Nainita Desai for ‘Tales Of Kenzera: Zau’ showcase the diverse talents celebrated by this year’s awards. The David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent highlights promising newcomers such as Andrea Datzman for ‘Inside Out 2’ and Emily Rice for ‘Broken Bird’.
