Jonathan Bailey Shares Enthusiasm for ‘Wicked For Good’

Jonathan Bailey is buzzing with excitement as he shares his insights on the upcoming sequel ‘Wicked: For Good.’

‘Wicked’ continues to charm audiences worldwide, having recently snagged the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award at the Golden Globes on January 5. Now, fans eagerly await its sequel, ‘Wicked Part 2,’ now newly titled ‘Wicked: For Good,’ set to be released on November 21, 2025. In a recent chat with IndieWire, Jonathan Bailey, who takes on the role of Prince Fiyero in the musical adaptation, revealed his excitement about the changes the sequel entails.

Bailey explained, “I think we understand the world and how it works [now]. I’m really excited for the tonal shift. The world gets heavier and more complicated, and there’s just that pumping sense of hope and joy and resilience and all the things that we love about Elphaba’s journey that I can’t wait for.” In Part 1, we saw Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, become a political enemy of the Wizard, portrayed by Jeff Goldblum, as she went on the run. Meanwhile, her friend Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of powerful forces trying to make her the face of Oz.

Fans know that while the sequel takes on a darker tone, it also brings some of their favorite musical numbers, like “For Good,” “No Good Deed,” and “As Long As You’re Mine.” Bailey expressed his anticipation for these moments, particularly the duet “As Long As You’re Mine,” which he describes as “sexy” and “powerful.” He nostalgically recalled listening to the song on a bike ride to meet the director Jon Chu years back, saying it’s been one of his favorite tunes.

Bailey, an acclaimed Olivier winner from London, has been enamored with ‘Wicked’ ever since experiencing it live in theater. Watching the film adaptation now is surreal for him, as it ties back to his younger days filled with acting and dance classes. “Going to see ‘Wicked’ with friends and family and my Nana the day after it came out here, it’s struck me that it’s all about local community projects,” Bailey shared. He involves himself in the arts, aiming to inspire others through his passion for dance and acting, the very passions that ‘Wicked’ reawakened in his life.

Looking ahead, Bailey hopes to refine his skills, return to the stage, and continue learning while enjoying himself. “All I can hope for is to continue honing the craft, get back on stage, learn a bit more, make mistakes and then continue,” Bailey says of his ambitions beyond ‘Wicked.’

As ‘Wicked: For Good’ prepares to hit theaters, Jonathan Bailey’s excitement gives fans much to look forward to. His passion for the story and characters promises a thrilling continuation of Elphaba’s journey.
