Neil Peart’s Beloved Motorcycle Up for Auction

In the aftermath of profound personal tragedy, Neil Peart, the legendary drummer of Rush, embarked on a journey of healing by taking to the open road on his motorcycle.

Neil Peart, renowned for his exceptional drumming and poignant lyrics, was instrumental in catapulting Rush to fame. His introspective nature and literary prowess were evident in both his music and his personal life, where he often retreated into the world of books and ideas.

After joining Rush in the mid-1970s, Peart’s life took a drastic turn in 1997 when his daughter Selena tragically died in a car accident. Within a year, he lost his wife Jacqueline to cancer. Devastated, Peart informed his bandmates that he intended to leave the band, signaling what many thought would be the end of Rush.

In search of solace, Peart embarked on a 55,000-mile journey across North America on his motorcycle, which he chronicled in his book ‘Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road.’ This ride was not just a journey across landscapes but also a path toward inner peace, allowing him to process his grief away from the public eye.

By 2002, this motorcycle journey helped him to some extent, leading him to remarry and rejoin Rush, with the band reaching new heights of popularity. However, in 2016, Peart was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a brain cancer, which remained a private battle until his passing in 2020.

Now, Peart’s 2004 BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle is set to be auctioned. This bike, which accompanied him on many journeys, including the band’s 30th anniversary tour, is expected to attract significant attention due to its storied past. The bike’s appeal is enhanced by personal touches like Peart’s signature drumsticks and memorabilia linked to Rush’s history.

The auction, slated for February 1, 2025, in Las Vegas, is expected to see the motorcycle fetch a price far beyond its usual market value, given its connection to Peart and his legacy as one of rock music’s most influential figures.

Neil Peart’s BMW, a symbol of resilience and exploration, stands as a testament to his journey both on the road and in life. This auction not only offers fans a piece of rock history but also a glimpse into the personal world of a man who turned to the open road in search of healing.
