Newly-released footage from the Broward Sheriff’s Office body cameras has captured the arrest of Nathan Gingles, a 43-year-old from Lauderhill, accused of committing a triple murder in Tamarac this February. Deputies allege that Gingles shot and killed his father-in-law, estranged wife, and a neighbor in front of his young daughter.
The arrest took place on February 16 at a Walmart located at 7900 W. McNab Road in North Lauderdale, where Gingles was found with his 4-year-old daughter, Seraphine. Authorities accuse him of first murdering his 64-year-old father-in-law, David Ponzer, before killing his estranged wife, Mary Gingles, 34, who had sought refuge at the home of 36-year-old neighbor Andrew Ferrin. Ferrin was also allegedly murdered by Gingles.
The dramatic body camera footage reveals deputies apprehending Gingles with forceful commands. A deputy can be heard warning Gingles, “Don’t you move, dude. You are going to get shot.”
Court documents reveal a history of marital strife, including allegations of abuse and Mary Gingles’ expressed fear that her husband might one day harm her and their daughter. In response to the tragic events, Sheriff Gregory Tony of Broward County has initiated an internal affairs investigation. This probe has, so far, led to the suspension of eight deputies and the demotion of a captain to deputy rank.
Sheriff Tony addressed the situation at a February news conference, stating, “We had a chance to save their loved one’s life and we failed.”
Local news outlets have reported that Nathan Gingles was still in possession of items in his garage, which were reportedly of concern to Mary Gingles. Efforts are underway to obtain images of these items.
Currently, Nathan Gingles is being held at the BSO Main Jail, facing numerous charges, including three counts of first-degree murder.
