Wilton Manors, FL – Authorities are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a man on Saturday, May 10. The incident occurred around 4:41 p.m. on the 2400 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations (THI) unit, the crash involved a 2007 Toyota Matrix and a 2022 Nissan Versa. The deceased, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was driving the Toyota Matrix.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the Toyota made a wide right turn from a parking lot onto Northwest Ninth Avenue, leading to a collision with the Nissan Versa, driven by 26-year-old Carla Hernandez of Plantation. Hernandez was traveling northbound in the left thru lane when the vehicles collided in a T-bone style crash.

The impact sent both vehicles into the raised center median, and the Toyota subsequently struck a tree before coming to a stop. Emergency responders transported the Toyota’s driver to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It was noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Hernandez was unharmed in the incident.

The Wilton Manors Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue were among the first to respond to the scene. At the request of the Wilton Manors Police, BSO’s THI detectives have taken over the investigation, which remains ongoing as they work to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
