A man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following a guilty verdict for involuntary manslaughter. A Clayton County jury reached its decision on Friday, finding Corey Crews guilty of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The case relates to an incident that occurred on October 13, 2022. According to evidence and court documents, Crews contacted his community leasing office and declared his intention to kill his partner, Kelvin Atkinson. Shortly after this call, Crews fatally shot Atkinson as he attempted to leave their home during an argument.
Crews has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The Clayton County District Attorney’s Office emphasized the importance of not using guns to settle disputes, expressing hope that this conviction brings some peace and comfort to Atkinson’s family and friends.
