A Delta Air Lines aircraft with 200 passengers onboard caught fire on Monday at Orlando International Airport. Fortunately, initial reports indicate no injuries occurred during the incident.
The aircraft, identified as Flight 1213, was preparing for its scheduled departure to Atlanta at 11 a.m. when the fire ignited. The flames originated from the tailpipe of one of the Airbus A330’s two engines, as confirmed by the airline.
Footage of the blaze, capturing flames and smoke emanating from the right side of the aircraft, surfaced on social media platforms. Videos show the plane’s emergency slides deployed and passengers standing at a safe distance.
Delta Air Lines expressed its appreciation for the passengers’ cooperation and extended apologies for the incident. Safety was emphasized as the highest priority, and efforts are underway to ensure all passengers reach their final destinations promptly. The flight had 10 flight attendants and two pilots in addition to the passengers.
Following the evacuation, passengers returned to the terminal where they received refreshments. Maintenance teams are set to inspect the aircraft to assess and address the issue. Delta also announced plans to deploy additional aircraft to facilitate passengers’ travel to their intended destinations.
Orlando International Airport confirmed that the fire was successfully contained and extinguished, with some passengers evacuated via emergency slides. Further details concerning the incident remain undisclosed at this time.
