A man from Dickson City is facing legal charges after orchestrating an exchange of methamphetamine for sexual services in Scranton. The Scranton Police Street Crimes Unit initiated an investigation on Monday into suspected drug and prostitution activities in the area. During the investigation, officers monitored activity on a website known for facilitating such exchanges, where users can post explicit descriptions and images of sexual services, along with payment methods and locations.
As part of the operation, an undercover officer impersonated a 30-year-old woman and was subsequently contacted by Zachary Davitt, also 30 years old, who agreed to meet at a specified location to trade crystal methamphetamine for sexual activities. Davitt, residing at 435 Main St., sent a photograph of himself and a contact number to the undercover officer, under the impression that the officer was a sex worker, requesting a phone call.
Police conducted surveillance in the area where Davitt was to meet the informant. He arrived shortly thereafter using an Uber service. Upon approaching the agreed-upon location, Davitt was apprehended. He confessed to intending to trade meth for sexual services and informed officers that the drug was in his possession. A search revealed a plastic container with one gram of crystal meth, a plastic bag containing 0.5 grams of meth, a clear glass pipe with traces of meth, a black iPhone used to contact the informant, two condoms, and cash.
Investigators verified the phone number used in the transaction, confirming it by ringing Davitt’s iPhone. He is now facing charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, using a cellphone to facilitate criminal activity, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Davitt is currently held at Lackawanna County Prison with bail set at $10,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24 at 9:30 a.m. before District Judge Christopher J. Szewczyk.
