On April 5, 2025, Douglas Rae Richardson, aged 55, passed away in Belen due to complications from pneumonia. Born on January 25, 1970, in Roswell, New Mexico, Doug was the son of Ron and Marilyn Richardson. He completed his education at Caminiti Exceptional School in Tampa, Florida, where he developed a love for social interactions and formed lasting friendships.
Doug was known for his outgoing and curious nature. He had a passion for creating art, listening to music, and bringing laughter to those around him. Throughout his life, he enjoyed numerous outings with his housemates and staff at the Los Lunas Community Program (LLCP), where he became a cherished member since 1998. Prior to joining LLCP, Doug traveled extensively with his father, experiencing the wonders of Scotland, England, and various parts of the United States.
Doug was predeceased by his mother, Marilyn Saxon, and his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his beloved aunt, Louise Richardson, from Greenfield, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind fond memories of his bonus grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Shumate, from Roswell.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ronald and Diane Richardson, of Kernersville, North Carolina; his sister, Kelly Frazier, along with her husband Rob, from Temple, Texas; and his bonus sister, Rachel Gonzalez, with her husband Eddie, from Kissimmee, Florida. The memorial service took place on Wednesday, April 16, at First United Methodist Church in Belen, officiated by Pastor Joe MacDonald.
Doug’s life was a source of joy and inspiration to many, especially those within the LLCP community, where he spread happiness and laughter. His family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all past and present LLCP employees, therapists, and management for their unwavering support in enhancing Doug’s quality of life.
