Drug Dealer Sentenced for Fentanyl Distribution Threatening Metro Atlanta Lives

A man from Atlanta has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for his involvement in the distribution of large quantities of fentanyl while in possession of firearms. The judgment, delivered on Monday, mandates that 25-year-old Alexander Arellano serve 13 years and three months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. Arellano admitted guilt to charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Court records indicate that in May 2024, a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent observed Arellano engaging in a transaction involving half a kilogram of fentanyl at a gas station parking lot in Marietta. Following this, agents tracked him to an apartment located on Windy Hill Road, leading to his subsequent arrest. After securing a search warrant, authorities discovered 10 kilograms of fentanyl, two loaded firearms, including an AK-47 pistol, and $120,000 in cash within Arellano’s bedroom.

The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that Arellano had a prior conviction for methamphetamine trafficking and was on probation at the time of his arrest. The DEA underscored the severity of Arellano’s actions, highlighting the significant risk posed by his trafficking activities.
