Pembroke Pines, FL – On May 15, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, in collaboration with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), held a public outreach event at Century Village aimed at preventing crimes against senior citizens. The event featured an interactive discussion that brought together representatives from several key agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Florida’s Office of Financial Regulation, Broward State Attorney’s Office, Wilton Manors Police Department, and AARP Florida.
The program focused on educating attendees about common schemes targeting seniors, such as investment fraud, lottery scams, and inheritance fraud. A local law enforcement panel also provided real-life examples of fraud and abuse cases, offering insights into the methods used by scammers and the steps being taken to combat these crimes.
This initiative is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s broader Elder Justice Initiative, which seeks to protect senior citizens from exploitation and fraud.
