A bookkeeper accused of orchestrating a $10 million fraud scheme against companies in South Florida has been apprehended while attempting to leave the country. The suspect, Hava Yfrah-Austin, aged 58, from Hallandale Beach, was detained at Miami International Airport as she prepared to board a one-way flight to Tel Aviv using an Israeli passport.
Yfrah-Austin, who operated a business named Accounting Solutions Today, PA, based in Plantation, provided bookkeeping services for two Miami-Dade companies from 2001 until her dismissal in April 2024. Allegations state she misappropriated funds over a span from at least 2018 to 2024, culminating in the discovery of the fraud when one of the company’s owners noticed questionable transactions during an account review.
Initially, Yfrah-Austin admitted to embezzling $170,000, yet further investigation by the companies’ owners uncovered additional fraudulent activities, prompting her later admission to stealing $3 million. The fraud involved the use of fictitious vendor names to facilitate fund transfers between the two companies and into her own accounts at Accounting Solutions Today.
Authorities reported that Yfrah-Austin sold her Florida properties in December, eight months post-termination. She was intercepted by agents at Miami International Airport on Tuesday, admitting to her Israeli citizenship and lack of a return ticket to the United States. Following her arrest, she was transported to the North Broward Bureau jail facility in Pompano Beach.
Yfrah-Austin is currently facing charges of wire fraud in Miami federal court, with a conviction potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
