A significant blaze erupted in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood on Thursday, casting thick, dark smoke over the area. The incident occurred along the 3100 block of Northwest 69th Court. Residents were alerted to the danger when one family member’s urgent cries woke others from sleep, potentially saving lives.
The fire, described as intense with palpable heat, is believed to have originated from an awning at the back of the property. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue teams arrived promptly and managed to bring the flames under control within 30 minutes. Complications arose due to burning propane tanks, which led to explosive activity at the scene.
The fire impacted two homes, with one house severely gutted and both properties sustaining considerable damage. In total, 11 people were affected by the incident. Despite the destruction, no injuries were reported, and all family pets were found safe.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, seeking to determine the exact circumstances that led to the blaze.
