Jacksonville, FL – A Guatemalan national, Samuel Ortiz-Ordonez, 24, has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported. Ortiz-Ordonez could face up to two years in federal prison followed by deportation. The date for his sentencing has yet to be determined.

Ortiz-Ordonez was initially ordered to be removed from the U.S. on August 28, 2019, and was deported back to Guatemala on June 15, 2023. He did not seek permission from the Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reenter the country.

On March 13, 2025, Ortiz-Ordonez was discovered in Jacksonville by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. Upon their approach, he fled his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot through a nearby residential area. He was captured following a brief pursuit.

The investigation was conducted by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Rodney Brown. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
