A teacher at HOPE Academy in Homestead is under investigation following serious allegations of engaging in sexual activities with a student. The accused, 20-year-old Bryant Caniz-Segovia, served as a physical education teacher at the K-12 private institution located at 1100 Old Dixie Highway. According to authorities, the incidents in question involved a 14-year-old student and are reported to have occurred multiple times between February and October 2024 at an unspecified location within Miami-Dade County.
The victim disclosed to Miami-Dade deputies that they had engaged in what she described as “consensual” sexual intercourse on three to four occasions. In addition, it was reported that Caniz-Segovia and the student exchanged explicit images via a social media platform. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, upon learning of these allegations, swiftly located and interviewed Caniz-Segovia.
Authorities confirmed that during the interview, and after being informed of his rights, Caniz-Segovia made a kind of admission, though specific details of his statement were redacted in the publicly released documents. He currently faces two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor between the ages of 12 and 16. As of the latest reports, Caniz-Segovia is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bond set at $15,000.
