Orlando, FL – A Honduran man, Jonny Dagoberto Zelaya-Torres, 39, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Senior U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell handed down the sentence following Zelaya-Torres’ guilty plea on January 16, 2025.

Zelaya-Torres, a citizen of Honduras, has been deported from the United States on four previous occasions: June 18, 2018, November 26, 2019, January 31, 2020, and March 10, 2023. Before his last deportation in March 2023, he was convicted of conspiring to transport illegal aliens.

Despite these removals, Zelaya-Torres returned to the United States and was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on July 11, 2024, for attempted burglary of a vehicle, for which he was later convicted.

The case was investigated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Del Mastro and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Sartoian.
