Honoring a State Senator’s Contributions

The recent passing of Washington State Senator Bill Ramos has left a considerable impact on the community, marking a profound loss for many across the state. Senator Ramos, who was elected to the state House in 2018 and subsequently to the state Senate in 2024, had only been in his new role since January 13, 2025. Tragically, he died over the weekend while walking his dog, Sadie, in the woods he cherished and worked tirelessly to protect.

The Washington State Latino Democratic Caucus expressed their sorrow over the sudden loss, highlighting Ramos’ significant contributions as a dedicated public servant and a proud representative of the Latino community. His work in the 5th Legislative District and his influence throughout Washington were marked by his compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service.

Before his tenure in the legislature, Ramos committed his career to various public service roles. He served with the U.S. Forest Service in North Bend and later moved to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration, where he enhanced public transportation access for 56 tribes across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Ramos also contributed locally as a member of the Issaquah City Council and owned a dance studio, enriching his community culturally and socially.

Throughout his career, Senator Ramos was known for advocating for the underserved, always prioritizing community voices and striving to ensure everyone was heard. His legacy includes serving as a bridge between governmental policies and the needs of minority groups, particularly within the Latino community, during challenging times.

Colleagues admired Ramos for his humility, joyful spirit, and the deep personal connection he maintained with everyone around him. His life was not only about legislative achievements but also about bringing joy to those he interacted with, teaching dance, and sharing stories from his upbringing in East Oakland.

The Latino Democratic Caucus expressed heartfelt condolences to his wife, King County Council Vice Chair Sarah Perry, and the entire Ramos family. The impact of his life’s work and the warmth he brought to his community will continue to inspire those who knew him. Senator Bill Ramos will always be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and love for people, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to influence public service and community dedication.
