A man, aged 42, was taken into custody in the Brickell area after reportedly causing a disturbance, assaulting a dog, and abandoning what is believed to be cocaine while attempting to evade law enforcement. Authorities have confirmed this information. Police identified the individual as Zachary Aaron Wolfe in an arrest report issued on Thursday.
Officers were dispatched to 1000 S. Miami Ave. in response to reports of unruly behavior. Witnesses described an incident where a man was observed throwing French fries, kicking dirt, and striking a dog. As law enforcement approached, Wolfe allegedly fled north on South Miami Avenue, temporarily disappearing from sight. Officers collected accounts from witnesses and arranged for animal services to care for the injured dog, which sustained a minor bruise on its head.
Shortly thereafter, Wolfe was spotted again near the intersection of South Miami Avenue and Southwest 10th Street, but he fled once more. Three officers pursued him on foot, eventually apprehending him behind a Burger King located at South Miami Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street. During the arrest, a witness informed police that Wolfe had discarded a small plastic bag shortly before being detained. The bag was found to contain what is suspected to be cocaine.
According to jail records, Wolfe faces several charges, including illegal possession of suspected crack cocaine, disorderly conduct, cruelty to an animal, and resisting an officer without violence. As of Thursday, Wolfe remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond set at $2,100.
