A man from Altoona, Wisconsin, is facing serious charges following allegations of threatening behavior towards a woman in Superior and her children. This incident prompted the involvement of two law enforcement emergency response teams. On April 15, Sergio Montrell Roby, 39, appeared in Douglas County Circuit Court. He faces charges including domestic felony intimidation of a victim, felony bail jumping, and misdemeanor offenses related to domestic threatening, disorderly conduct, and more, all carrying a repeater enhancer designation.
The court set Roby’s cash bond at $15,000 and imposed an order prohibiting any contact with the woman, her children, or their residence. Reports indicate that Roby’s ex-wife contacted Superior Police around 8:36 p.m. on April 14, claiming Roby had been making threatening calls and texts while at her workplace, with their children alone in the woman’s home. Despite having recently stayed at the residence, Roby had been asked to leave.
In response, a perimeter was established around the residence, and both the Superior Police Department’s Emergency Response Team and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team were mobilized. Roby allegedly continued sending threatening messages during the standoff. When officers attempted to enter the home, Roby reportedly re-locked a back door. Upon gaining entry, officers discovered Roby on the couch with a baby on his lap. The officers secured the children while holding Roby at gunpoint, and subsequently arrested him, taking him to the Douglas County Jail.
Roby has three active criminal cases in Eau Claire County Circuit Court, involving charges like felony bail jumping and felony contact following a domestic abuse arrest. In 2021, he was convicted of armed robbery and possession of a firearm as a felon, both as a repeater. The most severe new charge, repeater domestic felony intimidation of a victim, could result in up to 10 years of imprisonment and a $25,000 fine. Due to prior convictions, his sentence could be extended by two years if found guilty.
His subsequent appearance in Douglas County is scheduled for April 22, while his Eau Claire County court date is set for April 16.
