Executive Summary
Laws and Precedent
Khiri Jackson, a 31-year-old man from Cross City, Florida, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on November 14, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida, for possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The sentencing concludes an investigation by federal and local law enforcement into his drug trafficking activities within the Northern District of Florida.
Investigation and Arrest
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) initiated an investigation into Jackson’s drug trafficking activities in late 2024. On April 15, 2025, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on Jackson’s vehicle as he returned to Old Town from the Ocala area, believed to be the location of his source of supply.
Following a canine alert on Jackson’s vehicle, officers discovered approximately one pound of methamphetamine. The illicit substance was found in a vacuum-sealed bag on the driver’s floorboard, leading to his arrest.
Court documents also reflect that Jackson has previous state convictions for selling methamphetamine, indicating a history of involvement in drug distribution.
Law Enforcement Collaboration and Statements
U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin for the Northern District of Florida emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating drug crime. “This case exemplifies the excellent partnerships between our state and federal law enforcement partners that are forged in the unified commitment to rid our communities of deadly drugs and the criminals who traffic this poison,” Heekin stated.
Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler highlighted the local impact of the sentencing. “This sentence sends a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Dixie County. Methamphetamine has devastated too many families in our community, and we will continue to work side by side with our federal, state, and local partners to hold offenders accountable and keep our neighborhoods safe,” said Sheriff Butler.
Deanne L. Reuter, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Miami Field Division, reiterated the agency’s mission. “Stopping drug traffickers and keeping deadly drugs out of our communities is our mission. Every Mr. Jackson we bring to justice is one step closer to protecting our communities,” Reuter affirmed.
Joint Operation and Prosecution
The successful prosecution resulted from a joint investigation involving the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Adam Hapner and James A. McCain prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice. The operation aims to leverage federal resources to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
Commitment to Public Safety
Khiri Jackson’s sentencing underscores the unwavering commitment of federal and local law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks and remove dangerous substances from communities across the Northern District of Florida. Through continued collaborative efforts, authorities aim to hold offenders accountable and enhance public safety.
