A Miami resident, aged 43, has been apprehended following accusations of an armed robbery targeting a bicyclist in the Overtown neighborhood. The individual, identified as Travis Lamott Malone, was detained on Tuesday when officers from the Miami Police Department observed him riding a bicycle resembling one reported stolen during a recent armed robbery.
The victim reported that the incident occurred Sunday near the intersection of Northwest First Court and Northwest 12th Street. After leaving a nearby corner store, the bicyclist was approached by Malone, who allegedly called out to the victim. Initially believing Malone intended to ask a question, the victim turned towards him.
According to the arrest report, Malone questioned the victim, accusing him of looking at his mother inappropriately. He then allegedly brandished a black Glock from a small black satchel, demanding the victim’s bicycle. Shortly thereafter, Malone reportedly confronted the victim again while he was on the phone, inquiring about the call. Later on Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 4:25 p.m., authorities spotted Malone in the vicinity of the reported robbery, riding a bicycle matching the stolen one and wearing a small black satchel. Police arrested Malone on an unrelated charge and found a black BB gun inside the bag.
Investigators later conducted a photo lineup, during which the victim identified Malone as the assailant. At the Miami Police Department’s robbery office, Malone, after waiving his Miranda rights, admitted to being in the area during the incident but denied involvement in the robbery.
Jail records indicate that Malone is charged with armed robbery using a deadly weapon. Additionally, he was wanted on a separate warrant for charges of petty theft and resisting an officer without violence.
