Michigan Sees Rise in Unemployment Claims Last Week

Unemployment benefit filings in Michigan experienced an uptick last week, reflecting a rise in new jobless claims. For the week ending April 12, claims increased to 6,577, compared to 5,610 the previous week, as reported by the U.S. Department of Labor.

In contrast, the overall number of unemployment claims across the United States saw a decrease. Nationally, claims fell to 215,000, marking a reduction of 9,000 from the prior week’s total of 224,000, based on seasonally adjusted figures.

Among the states, Kentucky recorded the most significant percentage increase in weekly claims, with a surge of 187.3%. Meanwhile, Tennessee experienced the largest percentage decline, with claims dropping by 47.8%.
