A tragic accident occurred near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, where two Marines from California lost their lives in a vehicle crash while a convoy was traveling along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Marines have been identified as Lance Cpl. Albert Aguilera, 22, from Riverside, and Lance Cpl. Marcelino Gamino, 28, from Fresno. Both were part of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion stationed at Camp Pendleton.
Another Marine from the same battalion is currently in critical condition following the incident. Military officials have stated that an investigation into Tuesday’s crash is ongoing.
The accident site is located just over the state line, west of Fort Bliss, a significant Army installation in West Texas. Fort Bliss has been instrumental in coordinating military deportation flights and has served as a key hub for soldiers and equipment deployed along the border.
The deployment of troops in this region is in alignment with President Donald Trump’s executive order to enhance security at the U.S.-Mexico border.
