A home in northeast Charlotte was struck by gunfire early Tuesday morning, leaving the resident, Anthony Jackson, concerned for his safety. The incident occurred shortly after Jackson had gone to bed. He initially dismissed the loud noises as fireworks, only to discover bullet holes in his home upon waking.
Two bullets penetrated the window above Jackson’s front door, with others ricocheting through his living room. CSI teams had to lift the carpet to retrieve one of the bullets. One of the shots came alarmingly close to his elderly mother, who resides with him, piercing a window in her bedroom.
Law enforcement officials informed Jackson that his residence had been struck multiple times, suspecting that his home might have been mistakenly targeted, a situation they note happens frequently. Despite his relief that neither he nor his mother were harmed, Jackson remains on edge, worried about the possibility of a recurrence affecting him or his neighbors.
Last year, there were 856 reported incidents of shootings into homes in the area, resulting in 174 individuals being shot. In response, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department initiated the SWITCH program, which stands for Safety Wellness Initiative Towards Community Households. This pilot program dedicates four detectives to focus specifically on investigating shootings into residences.
A $500 cash reward is currently offered for any information leading to an arrest in this case.
