A Palm Coast resident has been apprehended following charges related to the death of his girlfriend’s cat, as reported by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Atticus Robert, 34, was arrested on a warrant in Mississippi, where he was located by the Hernando Police Department.
The incident occurred on March 7th during a domestic dispute, prompting deputies to respond. The dispute arose after the victim confronted Robert upon discovering the cat’s demise. Authorities noted that Robert had a facial scratch and had been alone with the animal for approximately an hour before its death. In his statement to deputies, Robert indicated that the cat scratched him and speculated he might have “accidentally” stepped on its paw.
The victim found the cat injured in the laundry room and, when attempting to secure medical aid, surveillance footage captured Robert obstructing her car from leaving the premises. He was subsequently arrested for false imprisonment and released on a bond of $5,000. A necropsy revealed the cat suffered from collapsed lungs due to blunt force trauma.
An arrest warrant for aggravated animal cruelty was issued for Robert on April 3rd. Authorities suspected he was living in a vehicle and eventually located him days later in Mississippi.
