A man has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Miami following a financial disagreement. Authorities reported that the 28-year-old suspect, identified as Reinaldo Trujillo Sanchez from Hialeah, was arrested days after the event, which took place last Friday around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street.
The Miami Police Department indicated that Sanchez and the victim, who met a few months ago through a mutual acquaintance, were involved in an arrangement due to Sanchez’s lack of a personal bank account. The victim permitted Sanchez to use his account for deposits and withdrawals. A misunderstanding arose when Sanchez attempted to deposit $1,000, but the transaction was never processed. Sanchez mistakenly suspected that the victim had withdrawn the funds.
Seeking clarity, the victim visited a Wells Fargo bank on Biscayne Boulevard on Friday. Shortly thereafter, Sanchez arrived and waited near the victim’s vehicle. The two met in the car to discuss the unresolved transaction. As they drove around the city, an argument ensued when the victim noticed Sanchez was armed with a revolver.
The situation escalated when the victim attempted to remove Sanchez from the vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the firearm discharged, injuring the victim in both legs. Sanchez then commandeered the vehicle, fleeing north on Northwest Seventh Avenue.
The victim was subsequently transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for medical attention. He later identified Sanchez through a photo lineup provided by the police. Authorities apprehended Sanchez on Wednesday during a traffic stop. A silver revolver, matching the victim’s description, was discovered in the backseat of the Mercedes-Benz vehicle Sanchez was driving.
Sanchez confessed to detectives, although the details of his statement remain undisclosed. He faces charges including armed robbery/carjacking and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Currently, Sanchez, a Cuban national, is held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center under an immigration hold.
