Queens Rapist in ‘Ghost Face’ Sweatshirt Thwarted by Victim’s Brave Daughter: Prosecutors

A harrowing incident unfolded in Queens when a masked assailant wearing a “Ghost Face” sweatshirt, reminiscent of the “Scream” horror movie franchise, attacked a 50-year-old woman. The perpetrator, identified as Rody Morales Cu, was interrupted by the victim’s daughter, who arrived just in time to thwart the assault.

The attack occurred on a secluded residential block in Queens. Court documents reveal that Cu was on top of his victim when her 25-year-old daughter appeared and screamed, successfully scaring him off. Following his arraignment, Cu, 20, faced charges of rape and sex abuse. He was ordered to be held without bail by a Queens criminal court judge.

The incident transpired around 3 a.m. on April 11 near the intersection of 162nd Street and 89th Avenue, in proximity to NYCHA’s Shelton House in Jamaica. Cu allegedly approached his victim from behind, brandishing a blade and instructing her to remain silent. Despite this, the woman managed to speed dial her daughter, screaming for assistance before being forced to the ground.

The daughter, who was nearby, rushed to the scene and caught Cu in the act, prompting him to flee down 89th Avenue. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators utilized surveillance footage to trace Cu to 160th Street and 90th Avenue, capturing images of him removing his mask. The footage also highlighted the distinct “Ghost Face” sweatshirt, marked by red lettering and the eerie character from “Scream.”

Further investigation led authorities to track Cu to his residence on 165th Street. Detectives conducting surveillance arrested him on Tuesday. During interrogation, Cu confessed to having sex with the victim and identified himself in the surveillance images.

The Queens Defenders, representing Cu during the arraignment, have refrained from commenting on the ongoing case.
