RCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter and Linaker Receive Prestigious Honors

Riverland Community College has garnered significant acclaim at the recent Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst Convention, held from April 3 to 5, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. The college’s students and leadership received accolades for their contributions to academic excellence, student leadership, and educational innovation on an international scale.

The Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Riverland, Zeta Eta, achieved notable success by receiving two prestigious awards: the Distinguished College Project Award and the Beta Alpha Continued Excellence Award. This recognition places them among only 15 chapters out of 1,244 internationally to maintain Distinguished Chapter status for three or more consecutive years.

The college’s president, Dr. Kathleen “Kat” Linaker, expressed pride in the community’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of valuing and nurturing student leadership. Dr. Linaker herself received the Phi Theta Kappa Paragon Award for New Presidents, highlighting her commitment to student success and academic excellence.

Additionally, Riverland student Katherine Eliason, a major in Liberal Arts and Sciences, was recognized as Phi Theta Kappa’s International Poet Laureate 2024 for her poem “A Chance to Breathe.” Her work was chosen from over 4,500 entries for the 30th edition of Nota Bene, the organization’s esteemed honors anthology.

The convention, a notable event in the academic calendar, featured internationally renowned speakers, educational forums, and leadership development opportunities. It serves as a vital platform for students to engage with peers, potential employers, and transfer institutions, while celebrating the achievements of Phi Theta Kappa members and chapters globally.
