Since June 2022, over 150 incidents targeting affirming religious communities in the United States have been documented, highlighting an alarming trend where extremists focus not only on LGBTQ+ individuals but also on inclusive faith-based spaces. The data, released by GLAAD’s ALERT Desk, underscores a rising wave of violence and harassment against churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples that advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion. Initially, in early 2024, GLAAD reported tracking more than 60 such incidents. Since then, over 90 additional attacks have emerged, bringing the total incidents to 151. In Connecticut, anti-LGBTQ graffiti targeted Immanuel Congregational Church, and in Michigan, police thwarted a plot for a mass shooting aimed at LGBTQ+ individuals, religious sites, schools, and hospitals.
