Tampa, FL – United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced that a federal jury has convicted David Fernando Jimenez Gomez, a 45-year-old dual citizen of the United States and Dominican Republic, on two counts of passport fraud. The conviction was reached on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Jimenez Gomez faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison for each count. His sentencing is scheduled for September 11, 2025.

The trial revealed that Jimenez Gomez, also known by aliases Daniel Gomez DeLeon and David Gomez De Leon, left the United States in the late 1990s and settled in the Dominican Republic. He secured a Dominican identification under a false identity. Despite having an outstanding arrest warrant, he used another alias to obtain a U.S. visa for travel to the United States. Subsequently, he repeatedly falsely stated that he had never used aliases on U.S. passport applications.

This case was subjected to a thorough investigation by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Karyna Valdes and Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Wheeler, III. The verdict underscores the commitment of the authorities to uphold the integrity of the nation's passport system.
