Tampa, FL – A Tampa man has been sentenced to one year in federal prison followed by one year of home confinement for making bomb threats against a U.S. House Representative’s district office. Rigoberto Albizar Martinez, 57, was found guilty by a federal jury on December 12, 2024, for his actions.
The incident occurred on May 1, 2024, when Martinez called the Tampa district office of the representative and left a voicemail filled with vulgar and racist language. In the message, he threatened to plant a bomb in the office.
The United States Capitol Police Threat Assessment Section conducted the investigation, leading to Martinez’s arrest and subsequent conviction. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Wheeler III and Assistant U.S. Attorney Karyna Valdes.
