A tragic incident unfolded early Saturday morning as a man drowned off the coast of Fort Lauderdale Beach. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department reported that officers were dispatched just before 7 a.m. to the 200 block of South Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard. This response followed a distress call from an individual who had lost sight of his friend in the water.
The Marine Unit of the Fort Lauderdale Police quickly located the unresponsive swimmer. The individual was subsequently transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigations suggest the drowning was accidental, occurring before the Ocean Rescue teams commenced their regular duties.
As of late Saturday morning, the identity of the deceased had not been disclosed by the authorities.
